NTT Com Asia unveils cutting-edge technologies At
“ICT for the Future R&D Forum”
(Hong Kong – 16 Jul 2010) NTT Com Asia, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today unveiled cutting-edge technologies at the ICT for the Future R&D Forum. With the aims of sharing world-leading technologies that enable industry leaders to remain resilient and yet to be at the forefront of the trend, as well as to stimulate discussions and inspire further research into the fields, the Forum attracted hundreds of leaders from foremost corporations and the research community to exchange insights at the demonstrations and thought-provoking seminars.
Mr. Noritaka Uji, Senior Executive Vice President, NTT Corporation opened the day with a key note address on Toward the Broadband & Ubiquitous Society. He says “R&D is the source of growth and competitiveness for NTT Group. Visionary technologies demonstrated today acts in the spirit of innovation that explore untapped communication technologies. We look forward to seeing the seeds of innovations thrive through collaboration to create a richer communication environment that revolutionizes our economy.”
Prof. Matthew Yuen, Acting Vice-President for Research and Development, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, shared on how the concerted efforts of research capability, supportive government policy and corporate open innovation strategy under the new economy can contribute to the competitiveness of these knowledge hubs and to strategic corporate development.
The premier R&D event covered topics related to the pursuit of Technologies for Human Life and Society, Technologies for Business; Energy and Environment Technologies as well as Science, Engineering and Network Technologies. Providing a platform for the exchange of views, ICT for the future R&D Forum promotes mutual ties in trade and creative industries between Hong Kong and Japan.
Some of the R&D exhibits such as the 4K Super-High-Definition Video Transmission Technology and Interactive Digital Signage, were among the myriad of innovative technologies showcased at the event. Advanced video transmission technology including 4K Digital Cinema - the world’s first digital cinema distribution and management system which transmits very high quality digital media content, and the 4K Visual Communication System that enables scalable and high-speed streaming in a telepresence environment drew wide attention. Interactive Digital Signage - which comprised SpotAd and NTT Docomo’s Recommender System, presents customized ads according to real time movement or customer preferences and profiles also gained popularity at the event.
Organized by NTT Com Asia, ICT for the Future R&D Forum featured some 20 exhibits from NTT R&D Centre in Japan. NTT has a rich history of technological achievement. Its vibrant R&D team is engaged in a wide spectrum of research initiatives that include quantum-related technology and optical devices that are several decades ahead in the future; also in human information science and network technologies such as wireless access and the world’s first NGN (Next Generation Network), which has led the market since its commercial introduction in 2008.
