ipassConnect Handheld Dialer Installation Instructions



(1) Requirements

! Before getting started, please confirm the following minimum requirements:

(A) For WinCE 2.11 and Windows PocketPC handheld device users:

Host Notebook/Workstation

• Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4 or Windows 2000
• iPassConnect 1.8 or later

AND

• Microsoft ActiveSync software
• CE 2.11/PocketPC compatible device with modem
• Sync cradle or sync cable

(B) For Palm OSR handheld device users:

Host Notebook/Workstation

• Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4 or Windows 2000
• iPassConnect 1.8 or later

AND

• Palm OS HotSync Manager
• Palm OS 3.0 and later compatible handheld device with modem
• Palm OS compatible cradle or sync cable

(2) What is Installed-

You have received two separate installation packages, one for CE/PocketPC devices and one for Palm OS devices. Both packages install the following components:

• Sync application
  Installed to a host machine. This machine needs to have iPassConnect 1.8 or later already installed with a recently updated phonebook. Typically, this will be installed to: c:\program files\ipass\ipassconnect\ipasssync
• Dialer
  Installed to the handheld device. During the installation, a manual hot sync of the handheld may be required, depending on the platform.

(3A) Installing iPassConnect Lite 1.0b1 for WinCE 2.11 and Windows PocketPC handheld devices:

1. Copy the file "iPC_Lite_CE.exe" to the host computer.
2. Connect your handheld to the host computer by placing the device in its cradle, via the sync cable, or by an IR connection (See your handheld user's guide for information on establishing an ActiveSync connection).
3. Double click the file "iPC_Lite_CE.exe" to launch the installer.
4. Follow the instructions in the installation package to install both the sync application and dialer. It is recommended that you accept all default settings.
5. Once you have completed the installation, choose "iPass Sync for CE" from \Start Menu\Programs\iPass. Note, this location may be different depending on the application group selected during installation in step 4.
6. Select and move POPs to the Handheld phonebook and click "Synchronize"

You are now ready to begin using iPC Lite on your handheld device!
Look for "iPass CE Dialer" in the Start menu of your CE/PocketPC device.


(3B) Installing iPassConnect Lite 1.0b1 for Palm OSR handheld devices:

! This beta Palm installation requires 2 hot synch steps before the dialer can be used. Please follow these steps carefully.

1. Copy the file "iPC_Lite_PALM.exe" to the host computer.
2. Connect your handheld to the host computer by placing the device in its cradle or via a sync cable.
3. Launch Hot Sync Manager from \Start Menu\Programs\Palm if it is not already active. The Hot Sync Manager is active if the icon appears in the system tray.
4. Double click the file "iPC_Lite_PALM.exe" to launch the installer.
5. Follow the instructions in the installation package to install the Sync application and dialer. It is recommended that you accept all default settings.
6. Once the installation has completed, perform a manual HotSync by pressing the HotSync button on the cradle or from the handheld device.
7. Next, choose "iPass Sync for Palm OS" from \Start Menu\Programs\iPass on the host computer. Note, this location may be different depending on the application group selected during installation in step 5.
8. Select and move POPs to the Handheld phonebook and click "Save" and then exit the application. Note, the number of POPs selected will increase the memory required on your handheld device. We currently recommend selecting no more than 150 POPs. Additionally, it is strongly recommend that users refresh their phonebook and resync on a regular basis.
9. You must now perform another HotSync operation as you did in Step 6

You are now ready to begin using iPassConnect on your Palm OS device.
